Tokai developed what it identifies as the world’s highest refractive-index plastic spectacle lens material at 1.76. These 1.76 high index lenses are particularly valuable where stronger prescriptions would otherwise result in thicker lenses. Tokai reports that its 1.76 technology can produce lenses approximately 47% thinner than conventional plastic lenses, although the actual result varies according to prescription, design and frame selection.
Tokai Neuro Select approaches progressive design through the relationship between vision and the brain. Tokai has used magnetoencephalography data, optical simulations and more than a decade of neuroscience-led development to refine how wearers perceive blur, sway and distortion. The Tokai Lutina lens is made from an eye care material designed to absorb High Energy Violet light within the 400–420 nm range. Tokai reports that Tokai Lutina filters approximately 94% of HEV light under its stated 1.60-index, 2 mm test conditions, helping reduce light-related oxidative stress and protect lutein within the eye.
Tokai’s No Reflection Coating, or NRC, is designed to minimise visible lens reflections while maintaining a natural appearance. MVision reports perceived reflections of approximately 0.19%, while an optional digital filter can reduce blue light by approximately 13%. This makes the treatment especially relevant for wearers who value lens transparency during face-to-face interactions, photography and video calls.
Tokai NIGHTVIEW is designed for wearers affected by glare from headlights, reflected lights and other bright sources at night. Rather than simply making the entire lens darker, its spectral design maintains useful light transmission while reducing selected wavelengths associated with glare. The lens has a stated luminous transmittance of 87%.
