Our main goal is to save your vision.

Myopia is a refractive error that causes poor distance vision. It usually appears between 5 and 16 years of age, and tends to increase during the child's growth stage, stabilizing around 18 years of age.

Normal eye vs myopic eye

Studies have shown that a 1-diopter increase in myopia is associated with 67% increase in the prevalence of myopic maculopathy, the most common and serious sight-threatening complication of myopia and the main cause of irreversible vision loss in the world.

statistics of myopia

Myopia has become a true health emergency. In fact, in recent years, cases of myopia have not stopped increasing and is expected to become one of the leading causes of permanent blindness in the world. Right now, 30% of the world population suffers from Myopia. In 2050, this number is expected to rise to 50%.

Unika-Mio Lens depiction

Our cutting edge Unika-Mio lens, powered by advanced technology and extensive research offers a groundbreaking approach to tackling childhood myopia, the "silent pandemic". Not only does it effectively slow down myopia progression, but it also addresses ocular elongation with its unique free-form technology, adapting to retinal asymmetry.

Clinical trials with European children revealed an impressive 39% lower increase in axial length after 12 months compared to standard single vision lenses. Manufactured with cost effective free-form technology. Unika Mio is compatible with any standard single vision blank, reducing lab costs. Its aesthetic appeal lies in its invisible treatment traces on the lens surface.

Foveal vision

How is it designed?

The Unika Mio lens, grounded in the hyperopic defocus theory, diverges from standard negative lenses that can exacerbate myopia over time. Our advanced technology incorporates asymmetric positive defocus on the lens' back surface, aligning with the natural asymmetry of the retina. This approach ensures proper light focus on the retinal plane, effectively combating ocular elongation and slowing down myopia progression in children.

The lens features a central clear visual zone with a unique elliptical shape, enhancing vertical axis vision. Surrounding this, the myopia treatment zone employs strategically calibrated asymmetric peripheral (+1.8 D and +1.5 D in temporal and nasal areas, and +2.0 D at the bottom). Together, these precisely calculated zones provide children with an optimal visual experience while concurrently addressing the myopia progression.

Axial length chart

The efficacy of Mini Myo has been evaluated in the first randomized, double-blind study carried out specifically in a European population. Children aged 6-14 took part, with treatment continuing for a year. The study yielded remarkable preliminary results. Ocular elongation, measured by axial length increase, was an astonishing 39% lower after 12 months in wearers of this lens compared to standard single vision lenses.
